Paul Novotny, Juno nominated Canadian bassist and Robi Botos, Juno winning pianist, and also winner of the TD Grand Jazz Award at the 2012 Montreal International Jazz Festival, will bring their joyous musical collaboration to the Leith Summer Festival on July 14th 2018. Novotny & Botos will take the stage at Leith’s Historic ‘Auld Kirk’ to present their emotionally charged melodic standards and originals that are steeped in ‘old soul.’ Their stories pay tribute to Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown and others, while their music always engages the audience with an improvised choreography of emotion and infectious rhythm. In 2016 Paul Novotny & Robi Botos released their first duo recording titled Look Ahead. It is rare to find new jazz with deep roots (‘My Favourite Things,’ ‘Darn That Dream,’ ‘A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square’) yet in their hands sounds fresh and timeless.

Through the power of music, Joe Sealy’s Juno Award winning album, “Africville Suite”, pays homage to one of the most misunderstood and forgotten cultures in the Maritimes – the citizens of Africville, Nova Scotia. The community and its dwellings ordered destroyed, and its residents evicted during the late 1960’s, Africville has become an important symbol of Canadian African identity and the struggle against racism.
